The Sheridan Filmmakers Festival has built its reputation on celebrating and enhancing Wyoming's rich filmmaking community, and this year's festival will be no exception. Filmmakers from around the nation will share their stories on the screen and give audiences a glimpse from behind the scenes.
Funds generated from the Sheridan Filmmakers Festival are used to support the Sheridan Filmmakers Workshop Series. The Film and Video Workshop Series offers a introduction into the world of filmmaking. Participants have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience on a short film or pilot project produced right here in Sheridan, Wyoming!
Throughout the semester, students apply the concepts they learn in class by writing, producing, directing, and editing short film projects using MiniDV video cameras and Final Cut Pro digital editing software.
The 2008 film classes were a great success and we look forward to continuing to provide the building blocks needed to create an independent film or work as a crew member on a professional production.

ABOUT
Sheridan Filmmakers Festival History
The Sheridan Filmmakers Festival was formed in 2007 by filmmaker Leon Schatz, historian Greg Nickerson and reporter Betsy Love. The mission of the Sheridan Filmmakers Festival and Workshop Series is to celebrate Wyoming’s filmmaking heritage and to provide citizens with new tools for creative expression.
As we called for submissions we were delighted to discover our community’s unique and little-known history of filmmaking. It’s a history that we can all be proud of.
During our charter year, the YMCA generously agreed to serve as our umbrella 501(c)(3) organization. Our workshop series was hosted at Sheridan College, where students had the opportunity to produce films to be screeened at the following year's Sheridan Filmmakers Festival. The Wyoming State Travel and Tourism Film Office has supported the workshop series as a means of developing an in-state workforce for film productions. We have also worked with the Ucross Foundation to explore ways of developing the festival’s reach and impact.
Technology advances have made high-quality filmmaking more accessible to beginners than ever before. There is a great opportunity to draw on our past and inspire new productions that celebrate our way of life in this beautiful part of the country.
